Battery Charger Systems - Large

Large battery charger systems manufactured on or after January 1, 2014, shall meet the performance limits in the following table:

Battery Charger Systems - Small

Effective February 1, 2013, for consumer products that are not USB charger systems with a battery capacity of 20 watt-hours or more. Effective February 1, 2014, for consumer products that are USB charger systems. Effective January 1, 2017, for non-consumer products.

Performance Parameter Standard

Maximum 24 hour charge and maintenance energy (Wh)

(Eb = capacity of all batteries in ports and N = number of charger ports

For Eb of 25 Wh or less: 16 x N
For Eb > 2.5 Wh and ≤ 100 Wh: 12 x N=1.6Eb
For Eb > 100 Wh and ≤ 1000 Wh: 22 x N=1.5Eb
For Eb > 1000 Wh: 36.4 x N=1.486Eb

Maintenance Mode Power and No Battery Mode Power (W)
(Eb = capacity of all batteries in ports and N = number of charger ports

The sum of the maintenance mode power and no battery mode power must be less or equal to: 1x N+0.0021xEb

Effective February 2016, EPSs must comply with the U.S. DOE EISA 2007 Level VI requirements. Information on the U.S. federal minimum efficiency levels for EPSs can be found here.

In addition, TVs manufactured and sold in California must meet the following CEC requirements:   

  • Automatically enter a standby (passive or active) mode after a maximum of 15 minutes without video and/or audio input on the selected input mode
  • Enter a standby-passive mode when turned off by remote or integrated button or switch
  • Have a peak luminance in "home" mode, or in the default mode as shipped, of ≥ 65% of the peak luminance of the "retail" mode, or the brightest selectable preset mode
