OFF LINE Control

What is the OFF LINE control for InnoSwitch3?

Is there any difference in general PWM control?

Hi Boyiyan

Thank you for your interest in our product. “Off Line” implies that the power source is independent of the mains voltage line.

InnoSwitch3 uses PI's variable frequency QR control that can operate in CCM,CRM and DCM modes and offers excellent efficiency and has inherent protection features such as over voltage, short circuit protection among many others.

With general PWM based controllers, only average current is regulated. Whereas, InnoSwitch3 offers cycle by cycle control that enhances safety. No external compensation loop is required with this product.

1.FWD PIN Resistance is 47ohm in the application note of  , is there a detailed calculation method?

2. How does the primary side of the IC communicate with the secondary test? Is there a detailed explanation of the principle?

Hi Boyiyan

 1. 47ohm is based on our bench testing. We don't have any mathermatical calculation to substantiate this.

 2. Secondary can communicate with Primary side through Power Integrations' propreitary FluxLink technology inbuilt in the IC. Secondary recognizes primary switching through FWD pin voltage dropping below 0V after primary is OFF.

This Topology  no optical coupling, how to improve dynamic response?

Submitted by PI-Radiant on 10/06/2022

Hi Boyiyan

In order to improve transient response, in Inno3Switch-Pro, for example, we have Loop Speed registers (Register address: 0x32 and 0x34) whose values can be adjusted to suit the user's requirements.

For more details regarding this, please refer to Inno3Switch-Pro datasheet.

Does Inno3Switch-EP/CE have this feature?

Submitted by PI-Radiant on 10/06/2022

Innoswitch3-EP/CE don't have this feature. For designs with these products, without adding any additional component, one should already observe a very good transient response.

Generally, operating at higher switching frequency might lead to slightly better transient response. However, there might be some effect on efficiency due to this change.
